Running contests on your YouTube channel and social media channels is one of the most effective ways to gain new followers. YouTuber Rclbeauty101 started her career by giving away MacBooks and other Apple products to new subscribers. She now has over 14 million subscribers thanks to her engaging contest ideas.

You don’t have to shell a thousand dollars on a contest. There are more cost-effective ways to attract new subscribers and get them engaging with your videos. We’ve pooled in the best contests to get going in the right foot.

1. Tagging contest

Publish valuable content that people would want to share with their friends on social media. And get viewers to tag a friend who would benefit from the video. You could also give away rewards to people who have tagged the most friends.

2. Voting contest

Get people to post photos where they are promoting your channel or something your channel stands for. For example, if you’re running a campaign where you are promoting positive body image, get viewers to post a photo on social media with a positive story about their body. Repost the contestants photos on your social media channel. Whoever gets the most likes on a photo wins! Contestants will share the image with their friends to win likes, and promote your channel while they’re at it!

3. Caption this

Post an intriguing photo and get people to caption the image with a witty line. Your comment section is going to be flooded with the funniest responses.

4. Follower growth contests

Set a follower growth goal. If your objective is to gain 100 subscribers, when you reach your goal, reward your 100th subscriber with a prize. Or give your fans a reward if they help you reach your goal within a limited time frame.

5. Sweepstakes

Get your viewers to comment on your videos to enter the contest. Announce that you will be picking out one randomly generated winner who comments and giving away a prize, like a raffle draw.

6. Answer with an emoji

Ask a funny question, and get your viewers to answer the question only with emojis. Give a shout out to the most creative emoji comment.

7. Hashtag contests

Get people to share a themed social media post, on a specific day each week, using your YouTube channel’s hashtag. If your theme for the week is “creative makeup tutorials”, create a unique hashtag like “FridayMakeupTreats” and repost all your viewer’s photos tagged with this hashtag. This is a great way to curate user-generated content.

8. Quizzes

Create fun quizzes with open-ended questions or give multiple options. There are plenty of online tools like Quiz Editor to make up the quiz.

Once you find a contest that works best for your audience, you can replicate it all over again, and you’ll often get better results than the first time around. Which one will you pick?
