Since the dawn of the hashtag which began on Twitter in 2007, hashtags have been making it convenient for creators to segregate and find relevant content on social media, without all the fluff.

Now, YouTube too has jumped on the hashtag bandwagon and has officially launched a hashtag landing page for users.

The YouTube community forum announced that the hashtag feature is designed to help creators  “group content together and help viewers discover videos more easily”.

But how can YouTubers leverage the hashtag landing page to their advantage? We explain it all below.

1) Viewers can find content by just clicking on a hashtag

List out hashtags in your YouTube video description. When viewers click on a hashtag, they will be taken to a YouTube landing page that contains videos with this specific hashtag.

Use specific hashtags to reach the right audience. If you want to make your videos stand out amidst a sea of content, incorporate long-tail hashtags. Instead of using something as generic as #makeupartist which may load over 50,000 videos, you can use a more targeted keyword like #makeupartistforteens. This way, your content will be visible to the right viewers.

2) Search for hashtags through the URL

Though the feature does not allow viewers to directly search for a hashtag with a premeditated search button, viewers can simply type in the hashtag they wish to view in the URL while searching for a video.

This could look something like: youtube.com/hashtag/[termyouwishtouse]. So if you are hoping to look for makeup artists, you could type – youtube/hashtag/makeupartists. Make sure you optimise your channel description with the right keywords, to help viewers find you easily.

3) There are no hashtag landing pages for controversial searches

Interestingly, when you search for controversial terms such as QAnon and Election conspiracy videos, you cannot find Hashtag Landing Pages for these searches. Bear in mind, if you’re looking to make controversial videos and organize them for viewers to find easily, you may have to find other ways to segregate your content like creating playlists.

With the YouTube Hashtag Landing Page, discovering new channels and videos just got a whole lot easier. Make each hashtag count and you could dominate the YouTube landing page results in no time!
