Many people can overwhelm you with their love and positivity, however, there are a handful who also use YouTube to vent their frustrations. It is all the more easy for people to hide under an anonymous name and lash out on the online world. It can be hard for both seasoned YouTubers as well as creators who are just starting out, to handle these negative comments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you receive hateful comments, there are six ways you can handle this uncomfortable situation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Delete the comment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you think that the comment cannot be resolved, you can easily delete it. Click on the three dots next to the comment and select \u201cremove\u201d from the drown down menu. Deleting a comment will delete the entire thread along with all the replies to the comment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/notMDkGO77ot3ZzNCKMBBthWyjILA2I3zdDoQaowk4jeDmZIVMZQJSmCK9pENg8POOOHT3P-1VxItwdreNqk3w9772Bp5NApowbUt_0NtQhMKOR52iTrCcPEmjhTp447xTcDilp2\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>2. Flag the comment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When someone has overstepped their boundaries and violated the community guidelines, you can flag the content. YouTube lets you categorise the comment as hate speech or graphic violence, harassment or bullying, pornography or sexually explicit material and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a comment is flagged, YouTube\u2019s powerful machine learning sends it for human review. YouTube\u2019s Policy and Enforcement team will then preview the comment and remove it if it doesn\u2019t adhere to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/about\/policies\/#community-guidelines\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">YouTube Community Guidelines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 According to YouTube, a flagged comment can remain only if it falls under these categories: educational, documentary, scientific and artistic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Life of a Flag\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WK8qRNSmhEU?start=37&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Block viewers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a specific viewer repeatedly spams your videos with unrelated content, or constantly throws hateful comments, just block them so that they cannot view or comment on your videos further. These viewers will not be alerted when you block them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can block a user the same way you delete a comment. Click on the three dots next to the comment and select \u201chide user from channel\u201d from the drown down menu.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=stY6aydfcIU<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Use a blocked word list\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to filter out inappropriate keywords from your comments sections, make a list of these words. Now add these words to your blocked word list. When someone\u2019s comments using these keywords, YouTube will first send you the comment for moderation before it appears publicly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To set a blocked word list, go to creator studio &lt; select the \u201csettings\u201d tab from the left hand menu &lt; select \u201ccommunity\u201d &lt; automated filters &lt; blocked words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/UMM0vuvjMOYMv4DvWiTsK0_DyYHJ48NZvYDOH7aQts8hKILBiwTQRvKusc2ADI_GuHZx108XUwKy5tCUDdOJcRmOJuX5sUk14ad0N1e4CZ4HMJibLyjBk55W0Mj8HsQnWQRLOEXH\" \/><strong>5. Select defaults<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the channel level, you can set a default method to handle comments for all your videos collectively. Go to creator studio &lt; select the \u201csettings\u201d tab from the left hand menu &lt; select \u201cupload defaults\u201d &lt; advanced settings &lt; click on the dropdown menu in the \u201ccomments\u201d sections and choose your options:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allow all comments: All comments will appear on your channel without restrictions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hold potentially inappropriate comments for review: This is the most viable options for YouTubers with a large following. YouTube\u2019 will automatically detect inappropriate keywords in your comment section and hold them for review.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hold all comments for review: you have to manually review all your comments before they appear on your video. You can pick this option if you have a small channel with limited comments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disable comments: You can disable viewers from commenting on your videos. Add a moderator<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the negative comments get out of hand, you can always get an extra set of hands to help you out. Add a friend, community member or one of your team members to flag comments for removal. Once a comment is flagged, it will appear on your public feed again only after you review the comment on your \u201cheld for review\u201d section.
