If your YouTube channel doesn’t have a trailer yet, here’s why you must get on the job pronto. Your trailer is like a movie promo. It gives a glimpse into what viewers can expect from your channel. Rather than just telling people about your videos, get right into it and show them what you’re all about! A great way to achieve this is by showcasing your best videos in your channel trailer. This is how you do it:

Step 1:

Go to YouTube creator studio

Click on analytics > overview

The “top 10 videos” tab will show you which videos on your channel rank the highest. Pick the video with the highest views/engagement. If this video has drawn people in, it’s going to do a great job enticing people to watch more of your videos, as your channel trailer.

Next click on the audience retention tab in the analytics section. Now select the video which you previously found, that ranked highest on your channel. When you play this video, you can analyse exactly when your watch time is high and when it goes down.

Cut your video in the areas when your watch time peaks. Make sure your trailer is within a minute long.

Step 2:

Use tools like Wondershare Filmora, Biteable and other editing platforms to edit your trailer and give it the perfect snip. The first 10 seconds of your video should get your audience hooked like a fish on bait.

You can also choose to snip out the 5-10 seconds with the highest audience retention rate from the top 10 videos on your channel and mash it up into one video for your trailer. This is a great way to tell people what to expect from your channel. The short snippets from your top-performing videos will also spark curiosity and get your audience to explore those videos.

Step 3:

Now go ahead and publish your trailer on your channel.

Head over to the top right corner of your YouTube homepage. Click on your channel profile picture. In the dropdown menu, select “Your channel”.

Now click “customize channel”.

Next click “for new visitors”.

Click on the “create trailer” add button and choose the trailer video you already uploaded on your channel.

And that’s how you create a bang-on YouTube channel trailer with your existing content. You can also choose to make a trailer video from scratch if your channel is new and you want to make a strong introduction. Just remember to keep it short, catchy and succinct!
